Who is Patricia Brentrup? Meet Actor Macaulay Culkin’s Mother

Patricia Brentrup is the mother of American actor and musician Macaulay Culkin. Patricia did a great job in raising her seven children. She had them with Kit Culkin even though they were not legally married. They were together from 1974 to 1995. The two met in 1974; Patricia was directing traffic while Kit was in his truck. The couple seemed to click, and they decided to begin a romantic relationship. In an interview, Kit noted that their relationship was just instant, and they did not see the need to formalize their relationship.

Financial Struggles

Patricia and Kit struggled financially when their children were growing up. These financial struggles were some of the reasons that led to the couple’s separation. After their separation, Patricia took custody of her seven children. It was tough raising seven children, but she was ready to do anything for her children. Even though they lived in a studio apartment, Patricia showed her children love.

Patricia worked as a telephone operator to make some money to sustain her big family. Sometimes, they could get a meal, and sometimes they could not, but they always stuck together. Her partner worked as a taxi driver, and whatever little he could make would help in paying for certain bills.

It was in their residence that Patricia and Kit met a stage manager who offered to introduce them to a casting director. Following this introduction, Macaulay who was then just six years old, landed a role in the drama film Rocket Gibraltar.

Billy Hopkins, who gave Macaulay his first acting role, noted that the family was so poor that he had to use his own money to ensure that the young actor went to and from the rehearsal. He further noted that Macaulay would crawl at the theater as he tried looking for money that fell out of people’s pockets. Despite these struggles, Hopkins offered to help, and a year later, Macaulay landed a breakthrough role in Uncle Buck. After that, he landed another role in the film Home Alone; this role took him to national heights, spurring his acting career to another level.

After some time, the other children were introduced to acting, and whatever money they earned covered their basic needs. Despite earning well from their acting roles, the family continued to live as if they did not have much, but years later, they moved to a larger home.

Health Issues

Patricia has been having health issues, but she has yet to mention what is ailing her. While talking to the media, Patricia’s husband, Mart Cox, noted that Patricia was having a hard time with her health, and that is why she has not been attending some special events in her sons’ lives.

Despite her health struggles, her children have been by her side. Cox noted that Kieran and Macaulay have been looking for doctors to treat their mother. He further noted that all of Patrica’s kids had been helpful in ensuring that their mother was doing well.
