Fraser C. Robinson III: All About Michelle Obama’s Father
Michelle Obama is a political figure who has brought public attention to not only herself but also her family. Fraser C Robinson III is the father of Michelle and many people have been curious about him, especially since he died two years before his daughter was married to Barack Obama.
While Fraser would not live to witness his daughter’s journey to fame and political achievements, he raised her so well. Mitchell and her family have continued to celebrate Fraser ever since his death, thanking him for sacrificing to offer them a good life.
Early Life
Fraser was born in 1935 in Chicago’s south side. He grew up in the area and even spent his life in the area while raising his two children with his wife Marian. Fraser and Marian met in Chicago, and they started and raised their family in the same area.
Michelle has sometimes talked about her family’s life in Chicago, where she mentioned that they were poor but her parents gave them the feeling of how important they were.
Michelle and her brother Craig grew up in Chicago, in a small house. Their parents worked so hard to ensure they had all the basic needs and a decent education.
Education
Fraser was a bright student but would not finish his education. He schooled in his home area and made it to college. Despite being a bright student, Fraser dropped out of college after his wife Marian had also dropped out, to find a job and support his younger brother.
Later Life
Fraser’s life changed when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 30. He worked at a water filtration plant at that time, and he showed up every day at work to provide for his family. The underlying disease did not prevent Fraser from working. He would always say that you get back off and carry on when you fall, and that is what motivated him to continue working.
Fraser continued with his life as normal despite health battles. He was also active in politics throughout Michelle’s youth years. Michelle’s father’s life during his sickness has motivated explaining why she has always stood for people and encouraged black people.
Family
Fraser was married to Marian, his longtime partner until the time of his death. Marian and Fraser had two children throughout their marriage. Like Fraser, his wife had also dropped out of college and they grew up in the same area.
Marian spent most of her time in Chicago, but she temporarily moved to the white house with Michelle and Obama in 2009.
Death
Unfortunately, Michelle’s father died in 1991, even before Michelle walked down the aisle with the love of her life. Fraser died a year and a half before Michelle and Obama exchanged vows and he was buried a few kilometers from his Chicago home.
Michelle’s father loved his daughter very much and he had experienced a few relationships that she had. Fraser never thought Michelle and Obama would walk down the aisle considering how her previous relationships had ended.
