Sherris Poitier, like her father, has tried her hand at acting. She is known for appearing in A Piece of the Action in 1977, The Fighting Temptations in 2003, and Sidney in 2022. While Sherris’ father was an iconic actor who has appeared in numerous credits, Sherri has only a few roles under her name.

Sherri’s Bio

Sherris was born in 1956 to Poitier and his first wife Juanita Hardy. Sherri’s parents were married from 1950 to 1965, a period within which they welcomed four daughters. Sherri grew up alongside her sisters Pamela, Beverly, and Gina in Stuyvesant, New York.

Despite Sherris’ father having a successful career as an actor, he ensured that his children lived a private life. That has been the case with Sherris with her siblings. Her private life has made it hard to tell her career and educational achievements.

Sherri attracted fame later in life when she tried featuring in a few films.  Besides a few roles in 1977 and 2003, there seem to be no more roles by the actress. She is famous as Poitier’s daughter, but she has not taken after her father’s career, like her other half-sibling.

After his first marriage, he had a relationship with Diahann Carrol. Despite the nine-year relationship, the duo ended it without children or marriage. Sherri’s father married Joanna Shimkus, a Canadian actress whom he starred with in The Lost Man in 1969. They walked down the aisle on January 23, 1976, and they remained married until the actor died in 2022.

Sherris’s half-siblings were born to his father during his marriage to Joanna Shimkus. Her half-siblings are Anika and Sydney Tamiia, a famous film and television actress.

Sherri’s Father’s Death

Sherri and her siblings mourned their father on January 6, 2022. The actor died in his Beverly Hills, California home at the age of 94. The actor died of cardiopulmonary failure.

Sherris’ father’s death was felt by many people, and many notable people gave their tributes, including President Joe Biden. Former President Barrack Obama also write a tribute to the late actor, including other notable personalities like Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton.

Poitier was a respected actor who became the first in 1963 to win an Academy Award for Best Cator. He was survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
